Why I Wear These Everyday

They glisten fantastically from my fingers as I type these words. They mean so much to me even though I’m not a ‘jewelry person’ meaning I don’t use jewelry as a primary way to express myself. However, I wear these rings everyday, each of which found me. Rings will mean something different to everyone, but to me, a ring is meant to be attached with nostalgia or purpose. Naturally, my rings each have a story I want to share with you.

#1. The Fake Diamond

I discovered this ring in a freezer bag designated as my aunt’s get-rid-of jewelry. Something about the unique design drew me in and I kept it. I’ve now worn this ring almost everyday for the last seven years.

A couple years ago, I visited a vintage jeweler to replace the ‘fake diamond’ with a real gem. The jeweler told me after some investigating that it will be difficult to replace the rhinestonedue to the unusual setting. He goes on to explain that the cut of the stone is priceless as it dates back to the turn of the 20th century.

Yes, the ring I picked out of a bag of costume jewelry on a whim is more than 100 years old. I was shocked! The unfathomable history it possesses makes it that much more mysterious. I have no intention of replacing the stone, as this one is so special and in my eyes, far more valuable. Everything in my life changes, even all the cells in my body, but this ring is my constant and my comfort.

It reminds me that there is always more to discover if I look closer.

#2. The Emerald Heirloom

This ring is imperfect. It isn’t completely symmetrical, the gold is showing wear and it is missing a few stones. However, this ring receives THE MOST compliments. It’s the one that makes strangers grab my hand the moment they see it, so they may get a better look. That seriously happens all the time. It’s kinda weird but mostly awesome. This piece is precious to me as it’s handmade by my mother when she was a practicing jewelry maker and gemologist.

This ring reminds me of my mama’s creativity and all the valuable insights she provided me during my upbringing.

#3. The Newcomer

This last one is a gift from my first brand relationship! It may seem silly, but I like looking down at this diamond band and how well it compliments the other two both in aesthetic and meaning.

It’s a reminder that it’s not always big steps, but often a step in the right direction to make a mark and be appreciated for it.

And there you have it! I wear a ring earned from following my passion, a ring that ties me back to my roots, and a ring that’s seen more than you and I can ever imagine.

Do you wear/carry anything with sentimental value? If so, why is it special to you?

Mary! I loved this post!! It was so sweet to hear about why each ring was sentimental to you. I also loved that at the end of each ring section, you stated what the ring meant. Keep it up girl!
