An Afternoon In Bernal Heights

Just outside of the center of San Francisco sits the neighborhood of Bernal Heights. It’s a great way to get that SF charm (because it is SF) but still feel like you’ve escaped the city. If this sounds like your cup of tea, here are some great places my family and I checked in the area, all within walking distance of one another!

Start with Brunch at Bernal Star

This cozy spot offers up everything you could ask of a breakfast eatery. The plates are big (and photo worthy), the prices are reasonable, the decor is stylish but welcoming and the mimosas come doubled. Not to mention it’s the perfect blend of casual Americana, French flair, and Southwest eats. I’m still dreaming of the chance to eat this French toast again.

Visit Succulence plant store, right next door.

This is possibly the best shop in San Francisco! Not only is the store itself beautiful and super Instagram-able (notice the theme, here?) but the staff is most friendly and very knowledgeable about raising plant babies!

They have a diverse range of goods from tree saplings to air plants, sage sticks to manic panic hair dye. Though perhaps the most unique offering of this shop is the DIY Plant Bar where plant lovers can get creative with a range of soil, pebbles, sands and mosses. This starts at only $10 and is added on to the price of the plant and planter you pick. #PlantParty

I clearly took lots of pictures and didn’t really want leave.

Take a walk through Bernal Heights Park

A trip to Bernal Heights wouldn’t be complete without stopping by this hilltop with panoramic city views. Also this park is only 2 whole blocks away from Succulence making it the perfect stop. I imagine that if someone left their heart in San Francisco, they probably found it here to begin with…

Thanks for spending the afternoon with me! Did you like exploring a little piece of the city? Let me know if you’d like to see more of these day trips.

This sounds like a perfect day and I can’t believe it’s in San Francisco! French toast is always my go-to breakfast order and I honestly wish I could have that one right now. Visiting a plant store has been a goal of mine for so long and that one is just too cute. And the nature lover in me would love visiting that park. I’ve only ever been to SF once but I’ll definitely have to make my way back over there again. Thank you so much for these ideas, and I’d love to see more of these day trips!
